Tire load Rating Help

Well, did a search and some research.....wanna get clarification..probably should go to Tires Section but I like the Super Duty guys and their knowledge so:

Opted out of the lift for now....went ahead and got rid of the Rugged Trail T/A's that came stock....didn't like them......cheesy.

Just had Discount Tire install Nitto Grapplers in a 285/75R/16.....they look nice but I noticed the load rating is D as opposed to the E rating of the rugged trails. I noticed it is only a little difference in lbs. on the sidewall and I don't haul much anyway...but should I be concerned?

Thanks in advance.

"D" and "E" ratings can be confusing. Look at the actual load ratings on the tires.

I think one of the only 285x16 tires with an "E" rating is a Trxus. Just stay within the weight limits of the tire and you'll be fine. What is that 285 rated for? My guess is around 3200 lbs???

The main difference will be air pressure.

"D" rated tires will hold 3000lbs.+, but you will have to run them up near max pressure (65 psi?) to get that load rating.

"E's" will handle more (3400 lbs.?), but will take 80 psi, so you can run them at less than max pressure and still handle 3000 lbs. +

If you are not going to be hauling near the tire limit, you won't have any problems.
