I have a 2000 E350 Power Stroke that I'm starting to have electrical "problems".
Since day 1, when I would start it no matter if it was hot or cold out, it would run for about a minute then you would see the lights get brighter. Aftermarket voltmeter would read about 12v until alternator kicked in then up to over 14v, and would stay there no matter how I drove or what was on.
Lately, it has been taking a lot longer to come up to 14v, and whenever I stop at a light (or come down to idle), the voltage would drop to 12v and the lights would go dim.
I have approx 188k on it, batteries are about 2yrs old and the alternator completely failed so it was replaced not too long before that.
Any thoughts?
Thanks
Ray
That is the GPR ( glow plug relay) kicking off..it stays on a predetermined time by the PCM depending on the temperature....It can be up to 2 minutes....As far as the Stop light deal , You need to test your alternator if it is doing that, when you come to a stop...check connections on the Alt. but it sounds like it could be getting weak...Mine was doing the same thing and I changed it about 1 month ago....you should have 13.5-14.5 volts at idle...you measure this from the output terminal on the back of the alternator and a good ground.....
