I have a 94 2wd 4.0 auto 3.08 rear end it has 195,000 im gettin 15 city 18 hwy I used to pull 24+ hwy I changed plugs and wires no change any ideas? It has the 4.0 tick but its always had it
Just a thought, but how cold is it there? Colder weather can sometime make the mileage drop - especially if you spend any time warming the vehicle up...
I would check pressures. Tire pressure and fuel pressure. With O2 sensors, the air filter will work fine until it's on its last legs, then the system cannot compensate, and mileage suffers. Until then, you just lose power as the fuel:air ratio is kept 'good'.
Do you have E85 fuel? You can lose mpg with the ethanol 'enhanced' fuels. Try a tank of real pure gasoline if you can find it. Have you changed the tire size? Do the brakes drag? When you take your foot off the gas, does the truck slow down quicker than it did before? Do you have neighborhood 'friends' that like to borrow gas from your tank to use in theirs? I've had that happen where the tank was 3/4 full, and next thing I know it was down near empty with very few miles in between.

You might check your thermostat. If it 'leaks', it will cause the engine to take longer to come to full temp, and might even cause it to run cool. Both will affect gas mileage. If the thermostat disc doesn't close tightly, it will allow coolant to leak past the thermostat, slowing heatup.

warm up time effecting gas mileage
ok it was 50 deg F here today and warm up time on same route/speeds was reduced by approx 50% compared to zero deg F. T-stat is fairly new and working. heat is super hot.
temp gauge shows normal when fully warmed up ie. same as in summer.
soo.. my $.02 worth - lower temps = worse gas mileage.
