During the winter months we are required to use gas that has up to 15% fuel additives in it. My total mileage for a full tank of gas drops by 25% (400+ miles per tank to around 300 miles per tank). This happens to me every winter. Has anyone else experienced a dramatic reduction in MPG using oxygenated fuels? With gas prices approaching the $1.90 I am glad my mileage is back up for the summer.
Yes, this winter I was getting about 10-12 mpg but now that it is warm out and I just got my engine rebuilt I got 14.8 on the last tank. Winter is fun to play in but the cost sucks. Oh yeah gas around here is now at $1.93 a gallon, sunday it was $1.67 a gallon. Damn politicians.
I live in Maryland and the additives are in the fuel all year. They need to get their stuff straight caus it is just making people burn more fuel. I get 14 mpg avg. in my bronco but if I go to Pennsylvania where they don't have this rule of additives, I get about 20 MPG. It just bites but the drive on the weekend to fill her up saves me $40 a month
Even if fumey isn't a word I know what you mean. We have been told by the "GOVERNMENT" that our carbon monoxide numbers exceed national limits during the winter months. They oxygenate the fuel to reduce the readings. In my opinion we still need the same amount of energy to move a vehicle. All they are really doing is adding an element to the fuel that:
1. Still creates emissions, just not the type they measure and
2. Does not burn as efficent so I experience a loss in MPG.
Any other thoughts?
20 mpg????? I got that with my Bronc, but it was on a flatbed being towed with a tailwind!!Here in so-cal we are stuck with that crappy fuel a lot and it kills the milage allright.by the way,our gas for 87 regular is about 220 to 230 a gallon right now!!Good thing I don't expect great milage with this rolling phone booth!
gas just went up 20 cents/gallon here in the last week (to 1.89) i can hardly afford to drive this thing anymore, so i just called up a guy selling a Desil Jetta for real cheap the thing gets 45 mpg i think i can live with 53 horsepower for quadruple the gas milage and desil is way cheaper here
