gave my daughter the '01 sport trac as her first car... just had to do: fan and clutch, ps pump, ac comressor pulleys, a/c line, accululator...
Now the reverse lights have gone out
Any ideas??
bulbs and sockets appear just fine... did notice shift indicator on dash is off just a bit... it reverses just fine.... is there a linkage adjustment or some switch that is bad?
The reversing lamps are switched by the switch assembly on the top of the transmission input shaft. The shift lever moves the linkage to select the gear.
Check fuse F6 in the central junction box first. It's a "Hot in Start or Run" circuit. The same fuse runs the turn signal flasher, so if the signals work, the fuse is okay.
Stand behind the car while an assistant slowly moves the lever from Park through neutral to see if the light comes in while the lever is in an "odd" position. This will tell you if its a misadjustment or if the circuit is dead.
Has various names depending on where you look. Parts stores will usually call it the "neutral safety switch". Ford will usually call it the TRS (Transmission Range Switch/Sensor), sometimes with the word "Digital" as a prefix.
On the CD4E, it's on top of the transmission, just under all the air and coolant plumbing.
