I would like to install a winch on my truck, its not going to be used much few times a year if that. So I was going to install it permanently but thats another 100+ pounds on the front of my truck and in all weather conditions which cant be good. I was thinking about installing a front mount receiver so I can remove it when not in use. Has anyone installed this Curt front mount receiver on their truck? I found out that I would have to remove the factory fog light which I dont like. I know its only rated for 9000 pound straight line pull.
I have not done that but have seen it done. One thing for sure is it helps
keep your winch yours. If you are not going to need it much then
I would say go for it. It will also keep it out of the elements and help
prolong it's life I would think.

Ya I was thinking that too...they took my hub covers on my 2000 Expedition three times so far...now I just keep them off.
Thanks
One thing I would recommend when you do this is to get 4 additional bolts and 2 retainers that hold the bumper in the front. The hardware they provided was a real PITA to install. If you go that route, not sure if that would reduce the tow rating. I only use it to push my trailer into a tight spot at the side of the house. Also use it for a bike rack when towing my trailer.
Thanks for the pictures.....its looks like I might be able to fab up something so I can reuse my factory fog lights....They might stick out a little more though.
Thanks again
I forgot to mention that you would need to also lower your license plate holder. I drilled 2 holes through the middle of the plastic holder and matching holes into the bumper. I didn't use sheet metal tapping screws, but instead used surface mount screws with nuts to fasten it. That's what I had available without making a special trip to the hardware store.
I also found this brand....Reese this one is $60 cheaper than the Curt brand....Both have a lifetime warranty. Is one better than the other? They both install the same way.
Thanks
We welded a tab onto a receiver tube, drilled to match the tow hook mounts, routed the winch cable to it and have, used it ever since. No light involvement, no plow interference.
