Black inside Tailpipe Jerking
Black inside Tailpipe Jerking
Ok here goes again.... This morning I woke up at 2:45am to be at work at 4 with an hour drive. I go out and start my truck (after unplugging it) and shut the door go back in the house get ready and head back out to my truck and think is my truck missing???? The sound just wan't right from the exhaust. I open the door, get in turn the headlights on and put it in gear and omg... it's missing again!! (this is not my first rodeo with Injectors). I start down the road cause it's acting just like my injectors.. shaking jerking the change out of the ashtray and I get to where it was warming up and my feet are starting to warm up... and my truck is still MISSING!! You can be going 50 speed up to 60 and it won't change gears until you let off the gas kinda miss. I drove almost an hour to work and it sounds and feels like it's running on 4 cylinders. It's BAD AGAIN!! This time it didn't get smooth after it warmed up so does that mean I can eliminate the injectors? When I got out at work I took at look at the tail pipe cause it was pitch dark and I couldn't see if it was smoking or not, but the tailpipe is black on the inside. Not oily though. just black. We were out of town yesterday and got fuel at a pilot. Didn't know if bad fuel would have caused this cause we filled up and came straight home and was running good when it was parked in the driveway last night. Any suggestions or thoughts about what would be wrong or could have happened?
That sounds just like mine did when I had the #2 injector go out. What year is your truck? Do you have gauges that read live data? What is the temp where you are and what oil and filters are you running?
It's a 2006. I have factory gauges in the dash but didn't show it getting hot or anything and the turbo guage was showing a little sluggish but nothing tramaticallly different, good oil pressure. No warning lights or anything. I use Mobil Delvac oil and ford factory filters. Has 195,000 miles. I was wondering if the fuel filters could have stopped up getting bad fuel cause we got fuel, went home and it was running good and got up this morning and started it up and was running good when I went in the house and came out to this.
Bad fuel could certainly make it run bad. A bad injector will not set a check engine light, at least it didn't when my injector went bad. You really do need some gauges. What is the weight of oil you are running? And do you run any fuel additives? It would also be good to have it scanned for DTC codes.
Going to drain tonight and see what we get out... also going to change filters tomorrow. Been probably since September since I last changed them. That's when I had the pump replaced and 4 injectors.

All parts were OEM with a certified Ford Mechanic installing them. He's retired now from ford (retiring last year) and opening his own garage with all certified ford equipment. (he bought a dealership shop that went out of business) I've put about 5000 miles on it since then... September 12, 2012 was when it went in the shop with him.

Holy cow...... that is nuts. Im sorry to hear you have had so many problems. One thing you should do if it hasn't been done already is do the blue spring upgrade for the fuel pressure regulator, it boosts the pressure around 10 PSI. One of the things that will kill the injectors is low fuel pressure. I also prefer running 5W40 oil, I was a 15W40 man until we hit a cold snap here in Utah and I dropped an injector, perhaps it was a coincidence but I think that had something to do with it. It runs so much smoother on cold starts. Run a good fuel additive that adds lubricity ( I like the ford cetane boost )to the fuel and change your filters as recommended.

The fuel pressure before the new pump was like 20 psi... now it's over 100psi (I can't remember the exact readings but he showed me when he installed the new pump) I do run the cetane boost and when it's cold I use the one from ford that is for cold weather I can't remember what it's called.
