1976 F250 Altenator and wiring

Hello all i have a 1976 F250 with what looks like a dogs breakfast for electrical on the fender wall.
I cannot explain it better than that, The truck has a 390 in it, and the alt dosent seem to be kicking back the charge to keep the battery charged. Now i was wondering if anyone had pics of the passengers side fender wall so i can see what exactly is suppose to be there. I have what looks like 5 relays on the wall hooked one to the other. AND the truck has 3 Solonoids 2 on the pass fender and1 on the dvrs fender.
email me at
vs1400glintruder@hotmail.com

thanks.

What is the truck doing to make you suspect an alternator issue (i.e, you've told us what you think is the problem, but what are the symptoms)? Have you measured anything?

Does this truck have an ALT light or an ammeter in the dash?

Can you post a picture of all the add-ons? What is everything doing and how is it connected?

Need a lot more information. You've got to help us help you; there's not going to be some magical list of instructions show up in your email

Not the best pic, but here's what I have on hand. It is from my old truck.

There's the starter solenoid and the voltage regulator.

I've got a '76 F-250 Crew Cab. From memory, I think on the right fender you're going to have the starter solenoid and horn relay. The voltage regulator is mounted on the passenger side of the radiator support.

I'm trying to finish the final reassembly of mine after repaint. I'll try to get some pics and post them here tomorrow. Anything else you need a photo of while I'm at it?

I think you are partially right. On some years the regulator is on the core support, other years the fender.

I would like to know how to attach photos here , I got a couple doosies for ya. I have determined that the altenator isnt kicking out enough charge to keep the battery topped up. There is 1 Solenoid on the Pass fender that is OEM and it functions the starter, the OEM solenoid on the DVR fender is used to isolate the Battery that is hooked to the Camper stuff. This keeps the starting battery protected.

I get that, but that's the same thing you said the first time, and you still haven't answered my questions.

sorry man .
There is an AM meter on the dash It stays dead center of the meter, Normally when the thing is charging is sits near the 13/14 volt range. I set the meter on the battery when the truck was not started and it showed 11.35 volts give or take and when the truck was running it only showed 12.3 volts Where as the normal reading while running should read about 13.5 volts to show charging, If i am correct.
Now thats at the battery, I am unsure of what lead i should be testing off the back of the alt to check to see what exactly is being thrown off.

Is it constantly reading low, or does it decline? If you start it, hook the multimeter on volts to the battery, and it steadily drops, then the charging system isn't charging. If it just reads low, I would suspect the regulator.

I personally post pics by making a gallery, and copying the forum code and inserting it.

Well, I thought I had two other pictures in the camera, but apparently not...

Here's a photo of the right fender showing the starter solenoid and horn relay. The voltage regulator should be mounted on the upper right side of the radiator support.

If you need any other photos let me know and I'll give it another try tomorrow.

Thank you for the clarification. The testing you've done sounds good enough. Pull the connector off the voltage regulator. The terminal that goes to the 'S' tab of the regulator should have 12 volts with the key in RUN. The terminal that goes to the 'A' tab should have 12 volts regardless of the position of the key. Check that, and report your results.
