I have an 84 f250 5.8 that has an electrical problem. When the truck is left running it will go dead about the time it gets to normal operating temp. The problem I have found is the voltage regulator. When I take it off the fender the problem went away so I did some testing with a test light and found that the metal part of it has positive current . When I disconnect the voltage light wire it stops( there is no current on the outer metal of the regulator). I have tried changing the regulator. Need some ideas to what is causing this problem. It does have a light and not a gauge.
Then either the regulator is bad or the alternator, or both. In my experience it is good to replace them in pairs as I've seen one take the other out. You can take the alternator in for testing, and may be able to test the regulator as well.
