Not a dumb question at all. But I don't have an answer so we will both be dummies.

The top two holes are your typical holes for 3/8 blind nuts, but just curious of
what would bolt there. Maybe some type optional hood lock.
Thanks,
Scott

No genuine Ford locking hood latch until 1978, will fit 1973/77's. But, won't fit 1972 or earlier.

C1TZ-16612-Z .. Hood Panel ~ 1961/66 F100/750 / 1961/66 B500/750 (B = School Bus).

Front: Two holes are for the hood latch 'catch' (C1TZ-16900-D) that fits into latch when the hood is closed.

Front: Two holes are for the safety catch (C1TZ-16892-A). Don't depend on it if the hood begins to fly up!

Thanks, so this other set of holes on the right side is basically a different location for a hood catch instead of the center area of the hood where it is located on my truck.

is it possible that someone repaired some rust there with a center piece from another hood i've had a lot of these trucks and have never seen one with two sets of hood latch and safety catch holes

I looked at a '69 L9000 (?) (slick style hood) one time and it had a hood latch on each side and nothing in the middle.

Wheren't those holes a left over design from the earlier style hoods that had the support rods on each side ??? With both my primary latch and the safety latch in place, there are still those holes not being used - and no they aren't left over from someone doing body work. Same holes are on all my 65-66 trucls and spare hoods.

Bill, if those holes are for a hood panel,,, what the hell is a hood panel. Anyone have pictures of one. inquiring minds MUST know... ;o)

L series trucks introduced in 1970, don't look like a slick in any way, shape or form.

C1TZ-16612-B .. Hood Panel ~ Has two hood latch 'catches' and two safety catches, one on either side: 1961/69: F800/1100 & T750/950.

The cab is similar, but the front end of these trucks looks totally different than the F100/750's. Hood latches themselves are located on the right/left grille panels.

Whiz over to Moss Landing, see if you can find a 1948/54 Hudson hood. There are two folding hood supports with a coil spring, one on either side, attach to the inner fender aprons/hood sides.

Raise the hood, these unfold, keep the hood up. But, these interfere when bending over the fenders, so remember to keep your noggin' out of the way.

If you want a looong hood prop rod, look for a 1956/64 Studebaker Hawk. It's located at left front, you'll have to prop the heavy hood up w/a broomstick to remove the rod.

Yeah, I should go out there and look around. Haven't been out there for a while.
During the week is the best time, not so many people. Last time I was out there, I was under one of the trucks removing a part and watched some a??h??e removing a tool from my tool box. Guess he didn't see me under the truck. He saw me when I landed him on his ***.
Ahhh but one of the good parts is the burritos they make off the crap wagen that comes around. Some wagen are good - some are bad. This mom & Pop wagen makes great Burritos. Clean meet with no garbage and BIG... YEP, thats where I'm going tomorrow... ;o)
