As if I need another reason to hate Los Angeles, the surcharge some stations try to get away with for diesel is ridiculous. It was $3.99 less than a mile away.

I think it is great...if someone rolls in there and fills up when you can buy it for $3.99 locally deserves to part with their money.

Oh they hadn't completely gone crazy. It's the only station in the area (that I observed) to have a separate island for diesel pumps that could easily accommodate over size vehicles, such as RVs or 5ers.

Not that I'd want to be driving either of those in that area.

 

new joke city is the same way. in the city diesel and gas are on average $2 per gallon more than 1 mile away in new jersey.

 

I think some stations are mandated to carry the fuel, but really don't want to be bothered with selling it, so they price it accordingly.

The 76 on Sepulveda and Roscoe in Panorama City has been that way for years.

another thing that may be happening is area pricing. the higher the average household income is, the higher the gas price is.
in north haledon nj, the average income is around $200,000
paterson nj average income is around $13,000
the exxon on the corner of union and grand in north haledon is $4.32 for regular.
across the street on the corner in paterson is a BP. regular there is $3.12.

 

That would make sense if the prices were all inflated. In this case just diesel is. The others are on par.

 

Here in NH, a major gas station is Irving Oil. I have 4 in a 15 mile radius. 2 where at 3.959, 1 at 3.999 and 1 at 3.91. On Friday one of them went from 3.959 to 4.049 ouch.
