that doesnt sound like brake squeak to me, it sounds like a metal to metal problem. Thursday i used 4wd for the first time and got almost the same noise just louder out of my drivers side front. Ripped it apart and the dam oil seal (the big one on the stub shaft) somehow fell apart. the metal ring pulled away from the outer rubber and evertime i locked in the hubs it squeeled like crazy! Worst part is they are only three years old, dealer saidimust have hit it wrong when i installed it the last time.....
well those are less than 2 months old, so i wouldnt guess that is the problem. its hard to tell where its coming from because i cant reproduce the noise with the truck jacked up. seems like there has to be a load on it to make then noise
I think I misunderstood your question a little. I have no idea if it does it in 4x4 or not, everytime I'm in 4x4 I'm usually not listening for anything and just concentrating on driving. I'll lock my hubs for the drive home and see if it makes it. Right needle bearing is new and left still had factory grease and felt brand new when I did ball joints a month ago. It's been doing this over a year.
Still does it with the hubs locked in. If it is the needle bearings, that is "good" because i have 2 in my tool box, but not to thrilled about taking off the wheel bearing again
Also sitting in my tool box, 4 of us decided there was no need to replace them because they had no play and looked fine. My new truck needs ball joints so i am going to put them on that instead
well heres my opinion, get a set of six ton jack stands and put them under the axles. put the truck in 4wd and put her in gear and let the tires spin and turn the wheel back and forth untill you hear the noise. Have someone sit next to the bad side and look/listen for the noise. I did this on my 79 Bronco when the front end was clunking, turned out one of the bolts for the radius arm fell out and the bracket was moving
interesting. my rear dust shields had rotted out right when i bought the truck, and the dealer (ford) replaced them under warranty. but the noise from that was much much much worse, sounded like someone jammed a piece of metal between the two
