351W stalling when put under load

I have a 1979 F150 with a 1974 351W motor and c6 tranny and when I put the motor under load it stalls almost instantly, unless I feather the gas pedal a bit. Was wondering if anyone had any ideas on what it could possibly be, I have tried different carbs and a completly different tranny, I though it might have been a vacuum leak but I could not find. Possibly a worn camshaft?? any ideas would be appreciated.

Have you checked your fuel filter?

Well, I would have looked to the fuel system first (filter/pump), but you're saying that if you feather the throttle is does fine, right? The old routines will tell you what's going on: compression check, manifold/ported vacuum checks, ignition timing, fuel pressure.

Worn camshaft? Wierd wear pattern on the lifters? Hmmm... Don't know.

Did this happen all of a sudden? I'd see what the distributor's doing...
