Input needed on 6.4s, the good and bad

I am looking at 6.0s and 6.4s. I would like to know as much as I can about each so lets start with the 6.4

I plan on using the truck as a DD, leave it stock, and tow the average boat every so often. I heard its best to delete the egr and get a tune to cancel the code.

Also, do I really need to change the bolts? I have read that they are change on trucks set up for hi-performance.

Just throw at me what you know,
Thanks!

In my opinion, if you are going to leave it "stock", I would go with a 6.0.

It's horrible. Don't buy a 6.4.

what kind of daily driving are we talking. how for miles/times stop and go traffic? these trucks hate stop and go traffic when in regen. i think the bigger issue than is the DPF not the egr. in which if you delete the DPF you HAVE to tune it, no way around that.

I don't know why you guys bash the 6.4 so much. I have been driving my 09 6.4 as a daily driver since I got it. I have 66,000 miles on it now. It'll be four years old next week. It's been awesome! I wouldn't trade it for anything except maybe a 6.7 but I'd have to shell out another ten grand that I don't have to get it.

I think you misunderstood the guys on here, everyone that posted is a die hard 6.4 driver. RM2738 likes to have fun, haha.

As for the OP, the 6.4 is an amazing motor depending on what you want it for. As others have mentioned it doesn't like stop and go traffic but with the proper tune that can be accomplished. A religious maintenance schedule is a must as is running the proper fluids. It'll tow a house and again with the proper tunes it'll liquify the back tires. For obvious reasons I'll assume you are buying used, look for something with good maintenance records and a clean OASIS and you should be in good shape. I wouldn't even consider a 6.0 after driving a 6.4. I've got 182,000km's on mine and it's been the best truck I've ever owned. Just my 2 cents.

Maybe I did misunderstand. When you use sarcasm, you're supposed to add a little smilie face like this...
I also agree that I'd never own a 6.0 after having the 6.4. They aren't perfect but waaaaay better.

If you are buying a 6.4, and driving it around like a mini van, do full deletes and tune or it will be a battle to keep it going.
Emissions system don't like anything but highway and towing.

If you run bigger tunes, you want studs and wastegate.
