1997 F250 ENGINE SWAP

I have a 1997 F250 with a 5.4L engine that had 524,000 miles. I blew a head gasket and I found a 1998 F150 Lariat with a 5.4L engine. I called Ford and gave the VIN's and they said that the engine wouldn't work. The 1998 came back with a tag number 8GAA and the 1997 with a tag number 7GAA. I am thinking that the difference comes from 97 vs 98. I haven't compaired the computer numbers yet. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

I think there wouldnt be any reason that it wouldnt fit. You may have to swap intakes, and the fuel rail, and possibly the oil pan, but it will fit.

Assuming they are both gas (i.e one isn't CNG) they are interchangeable.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the replies. The previous owner had done some work on the intake manifold and I wanted to have peace of mind, so the intake manifold was removed and a new set of gaskets were installed. My son and I got the engine and transmission bolted together last night. Hopefully today we can get the other connections done and see if the truck lives once again.
