I have an 84' bronco with a 351Windsor . Every time I leave the battery hooked up for a period of time it drains. Nothing is on that'd do it. I've replaced the alternator, regulator, starter, solenoid, and battery.
If anyone has any ideas on how to find the problem or what it might be please share.
One thing to check is the rear cargo light. The light will stay on with the ignition off. I left it on accidentally once and never noticed that it was on. 2 days later I had a dead battery.
Hi Camo, your problem can be easy or a real bear. Do you have a trailer electrical connector? IF so, make sure it is clean, dry, and not shorting out. I have a bad one one the Big Red Bronco, and it destroyed some of the wiring, including the fuel pump power lines. The connector shorted direct battery power and melted several wires together.
If you don't think you have the necessary tools and knowledge to find a short then consider an auto electric shop. They specialize in electrical problems.
The other side is: once the problem is found, can you fix it cheaper then the auto electric shop?
Bruce (Big Red Bronco)
The dome light has always been my nemisis. I seem to turn it on occasionally when I push in the **** to turn the headlights off. The rear cargo light and the stereo were both mentioned earlier. Later models have map lights that can be inadvertently left on. If you have something other than the lighter plugged into the cigarette lighter socket, check it. Make sure that the glove compartment light and the engine compartment light go out when they should.
