Differences in 7.3s?

After 400 000km my 2000 F250 is in need of an engine.
I found one with only 81 000km but its out of a 03 Tow truck.
I know theres some changes between the engines. But what information would I need to know to tell if I can put this engine in my truck? Or is it one of those things where it will fit if I change enough stuff?
Sorry for being so vague. Just looking for some info before I go look at this engine to have a better idea on what to look for.
THanks

I believe it is simply a plug and play item. Just make sure you have all the sensors and the other things you want off of the old engine, if anything.

2000 to 2003 is no difference. As said by twg1966, plug and play.

You may find that the 2003 engine has add-ons. Get them if they are offered.

There are construction differences that only matter if you try to power up past the mid-400 HP range. Other than that, rock and roll.

Swap it in and button it up. Then fire it up and go driving.

What he is talking about is the connect rods. PMRs and forged rods. PMRs are only good up to around 450ISH hp the forged rods are good for more HP

Turns out the engine is out of a 97 rather then an 03. Im spending more time swapping **** from my old engine to the 97 then it took me to remove it.

Yes, there are some differences between a 97 7.3 and a 00 7.3. I'm not sure of the actual differences between them, though. Still worth it, I think.

There is a difference in manual trucks vs auto. Going from auto to auto is no issue but going from manual to auto is difficult because of the dowel pins that align the manual are much longer.

The fuel pumps between these two engines are also different.

Plug the hole in the early block's valley with a freeze plug and use the frame-rail pump already on your 2003.

For a more comprehensive listing of block changes, see this PDF attachment:

I wanted this job done this weekend and I didn't have a plug. So I removed the pump and took the plunger out of the pump and just put the pump back in.
The swap is done. A lot of work but worth it for the most part. I just need a new IPR and Im good to go.

Was just wondering if you swapped the whole front cover and oil pan. Ive heard they are different also. Im looking to do this same swap on mine. Any info on all you did would be greatly appreciated. Did you have to raise the cab at all? Thanks
