so i saw this crew on craigslist. its not to far from me but i think he wants to much for it. heres the link.1975 ford crewcab highboy - $7500 (norfolk)
and a few pictures the seller email me.
i think the seller is asking to much. i asked about roof rust and was told some surface rust. what is your opinion? thank you.
It looks like a good driver, but I am not sure it is worth the price. The fact that you can see right through the door sill scares me. There is probably a lot more rust if that spot is rusted. Also, does it really have a D60 front?
Well unless he has swapped one in since the pics, it's got the dana 44HD in it. In one of the pics you can see the "big" hub lockouts, which was only used in the dana 44HD not the dana 60's.

Ya, I agree that there's probably more rust there and will be some extensive repair which means $$$$$$. It's a desirable truck, but not at that price. People get this kick on "only surface rust". Well, grind down that surface rust and I'm 99% certain there is going to be pin holes. If that rocker is rusted, I guarantee there is more. If someone isn't too far away, it's worth just checking out to maybe point out some stuff and maybe the seller would come down, but he's not coming down to the price it's only worth.
So what's the smaller hub mean? The highboy I'm trying to pick up now has small hubs on it. No haven't got out to look under the hood or anything yet. Just drove past it & made a offer on it pretty much site unseen. Lol
I got a guy up that way that wants some parts maybe ill have to go make a delivery & check this crew cab out if I get up their

The crew cab highboys came with a low pinion D60, they share the same big Spicer hubs as the 44HD.
Montana, thats interesting...never heard that before, I guess I learned something today. I always thought the dana 60's regardless of being low vs high pinion used the same lockouts...

Most highboys came with the big hub 44HD axle (3500lb) but a few did come with the lighter duty 44 axle (3000lb).
I don't see many of them, maybe 1 out of every 10 highboys i come across, most 67-77 highboys were optioned with the 44HD.
The 44HD was an optional upgrade until '74, otherwise highboys came from the factory with the lighter duty D44, from 74-77 the 44HD came standard on highboys.
So '73 was the only year a dentside highboy would have came factory with a light duty D44 (if a 44HD was not ordered).
