2006 F350 4wd PS Diesel Auto with climate control. Climate module lights up and seems to work fine. I can hear "air" change diections behind the dash when I change temperature. The compressor kicks in and out. No matter the settings on the module, air only comes out the defrosters. When I set the temperatue control to call for heat, I get hot air. When it calls for cooling, I can hear things change behind the dash (such as vent doors), but the temperature of the air is nuetral to warm and still, no matter what vents I have chosen, air only comes out the defroster. The problem started last week with the onset of several days of below zero weather. The weather has improved greatly, but the problem hasn't gone away. Any thoughts on steps to diagnose?
check your vacum lines for leaks and the vac resivoir. Check your coolant shut off valve the grey hose hasen't coke off. Canister on passenger side valve cover in-line with one of the heater hoses. Low vac heater defaults to defrost.
Thanks Dan. After further investigation, I realized the vacuum pump was running all the time. I was starting to believe it was the vacuum pump itself, but when I went searching for proof...as usual, my first guess was wrong. I started disconnecting vacuum lines and plugging them. As it turns out, I believe the solenoid that controls the front hubs leaks when idle (not in 4wd). When I pulled the vacuum connector at the solenoid which comes from the cannister and plugged it, the tank immediately pulled a vacuum, the vacuum pump went idle (working properly on demand) and all my climate controls came back and are workig properly. Unless I'm missing something, I'm thinkin' its time for a new front hub control solenoid. Your thoughts?
