New Springs

I'm working on my '76 f250 highboy, looking at replacing the tired old springs. Not sure what I should do with them. Re-arching is not an option.

I have a local shop that can order exact replacement springs for around $1700 or I have an off-road shop that can have some custom deaver springs build that will have a better ride and possibly an inch or two taller for the same money.

Both options seem pretty pricey to me!

I always liked the fact that I could tell people the truck was factory hight when asked how much lift I had, but the nicer ride and clearance for some 35's would be nice.

Any advice or opinions?

thanks

LMC truck and NPD both have listings for them and far less costly. They have good free catalogs for reference and pricing. They both ask for amount of leaves you currently have. They can also be seen on line.

The same springs were used up til 1997 in the F-350 dual rear wheel. I got new ones a my local spring shop, both were less than $350.00 out the door.

Check out National Spring...might save you a few bucks over some other custom leaf shops.

What's the matter?
Springs too rusty for re-arching?
Or what?

How are custom Deavers $1700?

They typically get $800 or so for custom race packs which have 12 or so leafs in them.

I guess maybe the oddness of the 2.25" leaf width is part of it? Or maybe the shop is just making a decent portion on "their cut"???

As a side note - I've got the rear leafs that came off my '74 highboy or sale in the classifieds for $60. Shipping would be brutal on them but they're in at least good enough shape to clean up & re-arch.

Heck - deaver is just up the freeway a bit (1/2 hour away or so). If we can work a deal I can drop them at Deaver to be re-arched/cleaned up/restored to factory specs if you want. They can most likely be shipped out straight from there too.

Jeff (Deaver) did a great job on cleaning up my factory front springs on the highboy. I had him check that they were arched to factory specs & then clean up & add the delrin slider type pads at the ends of the leafs to soften up the harshness of the ride a bit too.

I called and talked to the guys at deaver spring. For four new springs built to factory arch with the thinner leafs for a better ride I'm looking at $850 for the fronts and $750 for the rears, plus U-bolts. So I guess my local pricing wasn't too bad. My wife is from the Orange County area so if I decide to go with these springs we can make a trip of it and visit some family and grab the springs then.

You can get Skyjacker's kit (2" lift)

$700 buys you new front springs and rear add-a-leaves...

$1,200 buys you new front springs and new rear springs...

(all hardware included)

I'll be installing this kit on my highboy this summer, my springs are tired and i've considered oem replacements but i figured i might as well get 2" of lift if i'm going through the trouble.

Skyjacker's do ride pretty stiff though, but i don't mind, it's a truck not a luxury suv.

Got it - I didn't realize their price was for front AND rear springs. It seemed way high for 1 pair, but about right after shipping etc. for both pairs.
