There's several on ebay. Sorry, there are no good diagrams free for your year truck. Here's one, it would be a good investment.

That's always my first stop when looking for any factory manual or publication!

well the manual came in .. No joy ...
it doesn't cover diesels ... only gas ...
so unless some of you guys have a page you can scan or some PDF
I guess I'll have to take it to the dealer, the guy I was using doesn't
have access to the files needed .. (yes he's low rent) but money it real tight
these days ..
thanks guys ...

What's the problem with the diagram? A diesel has some differences, but most of the body wiring is the same. If your diagrams are just for a f150 that might be a problem(as you go in the later years like your truck) but if you have diagrams for a f250 they should be good enough to work.
If you go to autozone's site, they should have the engine diagrams for the diesel for free.

You have the wrong EVTM. There are at least THREE different EVTMs for model year 1997! Bear with me as I list them:
1. 1997 F-150. This is for the F-150 only, the all-new design for 1997. EVTM has a Blue cover.
2. Later in the 1997 model year, Ford added the F-250 LD (Light Duty). It is built on the new-for-1997 F-150 chassis, and looks like it. It has the 7-lug axles.
EVTM is F-150, F-250 LD. Magenta colored cover.
3. 1997 F-250 HD (heavy Duty), F-350, Super Duty. This is for the carryover truck design that is just like the 1996 models.
EVTM is F-250HD, F-350, F-Super Duty. Magenta colored cover also.
This is the one for your truck
To answer your fuse question - Fuse #1, a 20 Amp fuse in the underhood fuse box for a diesel F-250 HD or F-350 is... the radio! That's it. The color code for that circuit's wire is LG/P.
An owners manual should have the fuse chart. If you don't have the owners manual, download or look at one at motorcraft.com or the fleetford site.
