Wanted to play around with some LED strips. Have one mounted on either end. The right angles were unintentional and now I'm curious how it would look with the directional strips. Still need to really wire these up. Where's the easiest pass through?
I put some of the amber wfls's on my running boards had hooked them up to the courtesy time out wiring that's under the truck (don't think this wiring is there on the XL's or XLT's) and they look like this.
Then I also mounted some on top of the window frame inside my topper switched with a magnetic switch, so they come on when I open the topper door, and they look like this.
If you want to see the specifics of where the courtesy time out wiring is and connectors for the running board lights, you can read about it at this thread.
I have some of the lights left over, and I thought I'd try to do something with the amber ones on the grill similar to what you did, then with the white ones I have left over, I thought I'd mount them under the hood and come off the existing tilt switch for power to light up the engine when the hoods opened, but I need warmer weather.
I have an XLT and the conectors are there, just havnt used them yet.
Like the running board idea tho, I get alot of mud on mine tho from road to work, not sure how thet would hold up.

Ok, I couldn't remember for sure, must be the XL that doesn't have them. The lights seem pretty durable, I drive a dirt road everyday also and so far they hold up fine with the running boards I have. I originally had the nerf bars on my truck, but I took those off because they'd get caked with mud as well as all the mud and rocks getting thrown on and between the doors, also they were a real pain to clean, so I went with the other style of running boards. The only issue I've had with them is the adhesive on them didn't seem to stick well on the textured plastic running boards, it could be because I applied them when it was fairly cold out (it is winter in Montana after all) or because of the texture of the boards themselves. I've since got a different type of double sided tape (the 3M tape that's used to hold body molding on) and it holds a whole lot better. I sure like the looks of them.
I finally got around to putting on my LED strip lights. Madsonp had a great idea wiring them to the courtesy timeout. I put mine on under the door so you wouldn't see the lights from the side of the truck. It really ligths up underneath truck well. I also replaced both bulbs in the third brake light, no need for strips in the bed anymore...

Those look great How well does the adhesive tape stick to the painted surfaces ? I see you went with the white ones, I think given the color of your truck that was a good choice.

I got the under hood ones installed yesterday, and boy what a difference it makes, I suggest anyone who does anything under the hood make this change. Here's a couple of photos, the first one when I got them finished, the second one trying them out after dark.
