Plenum Inserts...WOW

Riffraff sent me a pair of intake plenum inserts. Admittedly, I did not install them right away because I didn't think I needed them ASAP. I finally got them in last week and WOW! I got a 4MPG boost.

I wasnt getting the right mpg but I noticed the decline the same time I got my larger tires (and the odometer has Ben corrected) so I wrote it off as that. But now I'm up from 14mpg to 18mpg! I have been commuting the same route for several weeks and its all freeway, with minimal other driving. I knew 14mpg freeway with a 50 mile one way commute sucked, but what was I to do?

I'm dumbfounded. I didn't even know I had any boost leaks because I could still peg my gauge around 25psi. Just goes to show how much of an effect a leak can have.

Hmmm I have some inserts, new boots, clamps and a high flow outlet to install. I hope I get half that gain out of all my stuff. I am right about where you were on MPG.

My MPG's have tanked! When I first bought the truck last spring it came with around 15-17, now after doing an HPX, FRX, new injector o-rings, fuel bowl rebuild, & hutch & harpoon mod I've dropped to around 10-11!!! I'm just hoping that I can find some time to try out my boost leak detector I made & hopefully find a bunch of leaks to explain why my mileage has gotten so bad.

Just order a set and four t clamps as well. Want to eliminate any issues from that area. Now that I have the bellowed up pipes installed and the FRX. Just glad to know it helped someone else.

Sounds like a boost leak to me. I just made a video on boost leaks when I Installed the inserts, check it out. Hopefully that's all it is.

Your post has reminded me about a leak i have. Sorry didn't mean to jack your post trey.
I have an up pipe leak. I can only turn the bolt 2 turns out and it locks up. I can turn it in 2 turns in also and it stops. Im afraid that im going to snap the bolt off. So my guess is to snap it off and buy the bellowed up pipes.. Any other thoughts ? can't afford them right now..

Good news Trey. I just installed some inserts today. The holes they went into were certainly out of round before the inserts went in based on what was going on during install. It was good to be able to crank down those clamps afterward without fear of deformation.

more mpg is always a good thing. I am in dire need of some. I think I might go with these inserts though.

The inserts are getting more and more rave reviews. Seems like it's about time to try a pair. Thanks for sharing your before/after experience.

I would suggest them not as an increase in mpg but piece of mind. There's no reason the inserts alone helped the mileage out aside from better clamping being able to take place.

When I swapped turbos I put a set in my truck and come to find out when I pulled the spyder apart I have a massive boost leak at the orange boot. Someone had taken it off before and didn't realign it right. I was only getting 15 pounds of boost in all my tunes.... You never know what you have to fix until your in it already... Worked out great for me
