Oil Capacity question

Just changed my oil, I understand that the 5.8 is a 6 quart system. I have added 7 quarts now and it hasn't registered on the dipstick. It was showing before I changed it. Could it be the wrong dipstick? It has "Ford" engraved in it and has a code etched in after it, seems to fit pretty well.

Make sure the dipstick is going into the pan, I've seen where the tube rots out and the dipstick pokes out the side

I just checked, it seems to be solid the whole way down, the whole truck is pretty much rust free. This is really bugging me, it has to be the wrong dipstick.

Now my concern is how much oil it does take to register... If at 7 quarts it still isn't showing, who knows how much it has had in it from the last oil change in order for it to show on the dipstick.

How long have you had the truck? does it look like a oe type oil pan? my 351w takes 6qts and its right there at the top of the crosshatch.

Not sure exactly how long I've had it, maybe four months. The oil looked pretty good when I got it (and I've been broke) so I didn't change it. I'll take a better look at it tomorrow when the sun comes back up. I already went and drained some out, because I put 7 quarts in it just trying to see if it would register. I know there is no way a 5.8 can be 7+ quarts.
