I don't have a 6" lift or those great big tires ...
... but I do have a '77 F-150 with '78/79 style steering with all tight ball joints and tie rod ends and new drag link and all poly front
bushings and it has stock height and 103,000 miles.

For several years I had given up driving it a lot, just no fun chasing it right to left. December 3rd I ordered a Red Head Steering box
as part of a group purchase here, a purchase I had been putting off for several years. Saved $60 but if had known the improvement
that box would make, I'ld have made the upgrade those years ago.

This truck drives better now that it ever has since 35,000 miles in 1986 when I got it.

Not trying to sell you on their product, but a little play at the steering box transmitted through the linkage is huge at the tire ...
... and the improvement this improved / remanufactured steering box made is likewise, huge.

I need to get on the ball and order one of these. I talked with Harvey (the owner) a couple years ago now about their boxes and I still havn't ordered one. I need to jump on the next group buy.

Well in response to the big ol lift. It came on the truck, it was gonna cost nearly a grand to bring it back down. I'm not driving the thing down the road until I get all the kinks worked out so let's back off with the sarcastic replies. I'm not and don't pretend to know everything bout these trucks or any other vehicle for that matter otherwise I wouldn't be asking questions on here. So for everyone who has given me advice on how to solve my problem or what to look for I really do appreciate it.

Now for the steering stabilizer. It has a dual setup. It looks somewhat odd in placement. I'll take a picture and post it when I get back To the house. It seems to be mounted to the axle housing. I'm not sure how explain it. I've seen them mounted in the stock location but for some reason this one isn't.

I would guess that with the lift amount on it, it has been changed to be able to mount it. It normaly mounts between the frame and steering drag link.

Reread your complete thread and still sounds like you need a new steering box.

Sounds like you are talking about body roll to me. Seems like your steering box is worn, but to me sounds like you are describing body sway when you turn. I am guessing with the 6 inch lift, there are no sway bars, this could be your issue if I understand what you are describing. I know my truck has a little body roll being so tall.

yeah, but the problem is this happens when the vehicle is not moving. so im thinking the body roll might be because of the shocks. or they are actually adding to it. im going to replace them because frankly they look to be about bottomed out and that worries me. and once i get them done, im thinking that will help me eliminate any other gremlins that might be contributing to it. and then tackle to steering box issue.

I think if the body was moving enough to be concerned about it when the truck is sitting still. I would be looking at the body mounts and such.

I did, and they are fine. Where can you order just springs..? Or maybe just springs and shocks.
