Last night I jumped in the old truck (1993 F-350 7.3L IDI 4WD) and noticed the Overdrive Light was flashing OFF...OFF... (on the shifter) so I turned the truck off and restarted hoping it would not continue to do so. Well, it didn't stop and as I was driving I noticed a Rough Shift from 1st-2nd and 2nd-3rd. It seems like the heavier I'm on the throttle the less I notice the Rough Shift. Also when I place it in Reverse it has a Rough Shift as well. The overdrive still functions.
The transmition is an E4OD and has plenty of ATF; it is still red and doesn't seem to look too discolored. Does anyone have any answers or suggestions as to how to remedy the problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Went to auto parts store and they told me they couldn't perform the diagnostic because the check engine light was not on.
As far as the bilking overdrive light that stopped on its own. What could cause that in the first place???????When the light stopped blinking the rough shifting also subsided?????
I also discovered I have a bad carrier bearing. So, I'm replacing that today... Please help!!!
http://www.troublecodes.net/Ford/ Here is how to get any trouble codes.. Also you could just buy an Equus 3145 reader for around $23.00.
You will need to floor the gas pedal during the test to avoid a false Throttle position sensor reading.
