Front Grille Cover

Well see how it works. Changed thermostat in October and now truck wouldn't get above 188 in this cold weather. So I made some out of old siding I had sitting in the garage. I don't think it turned out to bad.

Its 33 now. But driving about 20 miles it will go to 190-192 then drop back down to 188 or so. I just replaced mine before winter. I have heat just don't think truck should run that cold. In summer it runs 192-196. Going on a 150 mile trip tomorrow so Ill report back on what it did.

I did one of these:

Cabela's: Winter/Summer Truck Grille Covers

Price seemed good and it comes with a summer bug screen.....

There's nothing wrong with it running at 188, that's what the thermostat is designed for.

I ordered one of these and got it yesterday... plan to install it this
weekend, but I'm gonna go to the local HW store and get "screw on"
snaps. This was also the cheapest place I found, took 3 weeks and it
comes from Canada but I like it..
Around town 10-15 minutes drives don't get the EOT up to temp, the ECT goes up no problem.
My BPD oil cooler works too good unless it's 75+ with the A/C on while on the highway.

I guess I dont understand what is the normal operating temperature ? Why do I have a 192 thermostat if it never gets to 192. In the summer my ECT and EOT are 3 degree apart in the winter I get EOT of 198 and ECT of 188.

A little still gets by the thermostat when it is closed, but those numbers are perfectly acceptable.

I would do it after the vehicle is fully warmed up and after running down the highway a while at steady state, just like other times of the year.

So what does it do when it doesn't get over 180, stays around 175-179..

But running down the road 20 miles. ECT 188, EOT 198. How can my deltas be so far off now but in the summer within 3 deg ? I was told that operating temp. was 190 to 210. If I cant get to operating temp. how can I check them? I'm not trying to be argumentative I just thought the temps should be at-least in the 190s.

Assuming you are asking what happens engine-wise if the EOT/ECT temp
never gets to ~188-190..

Perhaps the computer might still believe the engine isn't fully
"warmed up" and you might have lower fuel mileage?

188 is about the same as 190. Don't be confused by the digital value appearing
to be more precise than the old analog gauge. 170-175 is too low.. 188 is completely normal and
what I get much of the time for ECT. When I stop at a light it'll go to 192 briefly, the beauty
of airflow/thermostat and analog to digital conversion....
