Lockouts stripped????

Lookin for some input, has anyone had a lockout strip out? When I lock the hubs in without being in 4wd, the truck pulls. And when I put it n 4wd, the front acts like it skips teeth. Hard to explain,,, but it's messed up.

I can move the front axle u joints up n down a bit also. Are all of your u joints tight? I don't mean the u joint has play,, I mean I can raise n lower the entire axle. Could that be the lockouts are trash???

might be gummed up , take the hubs off and see if it goes in and out. Sounds like the middle assy is staying engaged. If you can raise and lower the axle shaft at the inside of the hub above the ball joints sound like the axle shaft bearings are trashed. There is a set of neddle bearings that support the axle shaft.

I was on the phone with him while I was under my truck looking at a few things.
I tend to think it may be the auto hub that is the problem.

While under mine I found the passenger side rod end for the drag link had
blown out the seal. Just what I needed

Update,,, pass side lockout has quite a bit of play in the housing the axle goes in,,, much more than the driver side. I'm headed to get one lockout. I'm sure I will be replacing the other soon, but I want to see if this fixes the issue

You wouldn't happen to be referring to the PVH (Pulse Vacuum Hub) Solenoid by any chance, would you? Because if so, I think mine failed today. Does your blower default to the defrost setting when you select 4WD?

I've got other issues,,, but yes,, when I select 4wd,,, vent blows outta the defrost. But goes back to normal when I turn off 4wd. How much is the PVH?

The part number from Ford is 7C3Z-9H465-A if you need to price it out at a dealer near you. It's only one 8mm bolt, one three-wire connector and vacuum hose connection away to replace, but you knew that already.

Before you jump the gun though, make sure you have no vacuum leaks at those plastic lines to the hubs though, and make sure each hub will hold vacuum.

I need to get a vacuum pump. I've been holding out to find one that doesn't have all the brake bleeder stuff with it. I've already got a pneumatic brake bleeder. I know, I know,, Im a cheapskate in some areas, but a glutton in others. Lol

Btw, should I feel it trying to vacuum down outta the PVH? Didn't know if the pump, pumps enough to feel it by hand. Cause im not feeling any vacuum coming out of the black line from the PVH.

Well I just replaced the PVH. Now my axles lock as they should. But I'm guessing that it will still pull to the right. Might be a warning that I need to replace my pass side wheel bearing assembly huh?

This is wierd. I put the PVH on. I ran thru done snow last night in ok, tx, nm, So I put it in 4hi,,, no pulling to the right. But I could tell that the front was engaged. So, hmmmm, problem solved? Time will tell. Doesn't make any sense. But I will take it.

to test if it's engaged. Do this. Put the truck into 4x4 and turn off the truck. Crawl under the front end and grab a hold of the front u-joint just before the back of the hub. See if it turns. If it does not turn it's locked, if it turns that's the hub that needs to be taken care of.
