302 cam selection
302 cam selection
so im building a 302 for my truck and need some input on what cam to use. ive got a a freshly remanufactured longblock. so c/r is somewhere between 8 to 1 and 9 to 1. ive got an edelbrock performer rpm intake, holley 650 dp carb and longtube headers. highest i plan to rev is 5000. comp cams 268h looks good to me but i dont know enough about cams to be sure. i was also looking at a crane cam with 216 216 duration @.050 lift, a 110 lsa, and .484 .484 lft. i dont want to change valve springs so i believe my absolute limit is .500 lift. im using a top loader 4 spd and a 9in with 355 gears. might upgrade to 3.73s. 31in tires
What vintage block and heads? Overall your initial cam choice is pretty sensible but you would be crazy to use a flat tappet cam if your block is roller capable as the benefits are substantial, the roller setup will cost 3 times as much however so it's not a free lunch.
