Hah
I actually bought three last time I tooled up 'cause you always lose one, or.......
I swear it wouldn't fit. No really.

Edit: I should say it wouldn't fit WELL.
"Cause a 9/16 is actually 14.3mm, right?

Well what is strange? 14mm is .551. 9/16 is .562.....

14mm is SMALLER not larger than 9/16

A 9/16 bolt head wont be nominal its under so the 14mm fits tight...

.3 mm you are only talking about .012.... Thats 3 standard thicknesses of paper.. Not much at all

You are correct.
The 9/16 fit (I would say) very loose. Loose enough that I was worried about rounding off the bolt because it's so tight.
When searching for the correct fit, it was the 14mm that fit perfectly.
Just thought that was strange.
American product, American company in the '70s.
I can't remember exactly when it was that there was a national propaganda push to start using metrics.
Was wondering if that applied here.

I use a 3/8 for the Raybestos Chinese calipers and wheel cylinders and the fit is loose as hell. But 10mm won't fit.

It's just a matter of the sizes lining up, and the variances in manufacturing.

I believe the metric push was in the mid 90's.

The only non-dentside I ever owned until recently was a 1982 F-100. It had an annoying mix of standard and metric nuts and bolts all over it.
