My ext cab barely fits on my 18' trailer. You need at least 10k lb trailer.

i would say a 20' trailer rated 10k or better.

i don't know how things are there in CA where you are, but here in WA, you can just go in and get tabs for it, slap them on the truck, and drive it home. or if some emissions testing requirement makes that impossible, you can get a 3 day permit to let you legally drive it home. it would cost a lot less than renting a trailer, and be less stressful

Or just drive it home anyway... the odds of getting pulled over for tags is slim to none until a month after, the ticket is cheap and so are tags usually.

Sucks to hear about the grandma and the Gf man..

wow, is that because of some unpaid tickets attached to it or what? 400 for just tabs sounds wrong to me

you might do some research on the 3 day permit aka trip permit. i think they cost 20 or 30 bucks here in WA, but that saves you a good bit on towing

That's another one of the many ways California sucks. Our registration fees are bad enough as it is, but they consider pickups a commercial vehicle so we have weight fees on top of the reg fees.

My F350 was $256 a year to tag it, and that was before all the increases. It'd easily be $300 if I still had it.

So with transfer, taxes, registration, weight fees, and any penalties it could easy cost more than $400 to tag a truck.

If you get caught here, the truck will get impounded.

i tried putting a 2000 4 door on my 18 footer and it was 2 foot short. so you will need at least a 20 or 21 foot deck trailer

Are F 250's considered "commercial" also, or just 1 ton trucks? I worked there for 6 months in 2006, and thought I read that commercial status and weight fees only applied to 1 tons over a certain GVW, and that even my F350 CC LB would not be... never ended up registering my truck there though...

All pickups and cargo vans. The bigger the truck, the worse the fees, but I'm even paying weight fees for the 'commercial' plates for my S-15.

I think what you are referring to is when you GVWR is over 10K and it is used commercially you have to register with the motor carrier and have a "CA" number issued.

Geeez. Are the fees assigned according to the GVW on the door tag then? Sorry to hi-jack, Joe, this just sets me off... 400$ to register a 27 year old truck! Bull****! Been thinking of taking a job out that way, so holy ouch on keeping the truck
