Just got the news that "Bob" has a bad cracked head. Will retain the damaged but desire to locate a replacement for the ole' boy. It is the O/H valve 215, but engine bored to 223 about 20 yrs ago.
Will any other heads interchange with the 52' ?
Are these heads hard to source? Suggestions welcome!
I am in Central Arkansas.
Thanks for any suggestions or directions to help with a remedy.
There has been a couple of 215 heads listed on Ebay for a long time. Each one lists at 75 bucks. The early 223 head is direct replacement also up to 57. After that the head bolt size changed.
Very good to know that there is a direct replacement up to 57', thanks for that tidbit.
Is there any problem installing 'hardened' seats into these heads? That is what appears to have been done in my case with the broken head. Must have overheated at some point without my knowledge, as I do not have a heater sender installed currently ( gotta get that fixed ! )
Really appreciate your helpful replies and excited to get ole' Bob back in service. Fantastic Forum here .
Had an enjoyable conversation with Jordan about replacing Bob's head and wanted to publicly say thanks to him and the other forum members who replied to my post. Looks like a great group and has re-invigorated my interest in the blue oval of old.
Should I continue with packaging and getting a shipping quote for the head that I have or do you have it figured out?
When I had my 215 rebuilt, I opted out for the hardened valve seats. The machine shop told me that it wasn't necessary if I don't drive the vehicle daily.
51PanelMan, continue on as we are not sure what we are working with yet and would like to cover my bases in any event. Can you give me a call or email/PM to talk specifics further?
