Camper Shell Wiring Question

I have a Leer XR camper shell on order; dude says he'll hook up the 12V light and 12V outlets right off the battery. Would there be any advantage (or disadvantage) to making the connection to an up-fitter switch instead? My thinking is that I could better control a potential battery run-down situation (ex: light left on) that way. I have no idea if this would be even feasible.
Could someone with more knowledge than I please chime it?

If you have it hooked to an upfitter switch the truck will need to be on to turn on the lights or use the outlets. That will be a big pain in the ***.

Like MisterCMK pointed out, the key needs to be on for the upfitter switches to work. I ran a lead from my battery to the back that's hot all the time and hooked some LED lights up to a magnetic switch that turns the lights on when I open the topper door.
