when i was in christschurch in 2000, it was late november as i recollect. i had a nice hotel room/apt that overlooked the street, i think it was one of the major streets. it was mid morning and a large parade came by my balcony. i didn't know what holiday it was but i watched anyway. many people lined the street and all had a good time it seemed. right behind the parade was the DPW and ALL the trash and crap that gets tossed durring a parade was gone!!! in minutes!!! so, after everyone had gone home you couldn't tell it had ever happened, clean as a whistle!! i thought how wonderful that the people that live here care enuff to pick up all this stuff immediately. that shows self and civil respect. thats one reason i like new zealand. there are several more.
