Hi guys: We gave up the idea of installing an old Ford-o-matic in 1964 F100 w/292 Y. As one of the guys said it was too old technology so we decided on a AOD tranny. The problem is that the engine is mounted by the bellhousing and it has to be removed. So what do we do. Cut out old crossmember and put in a new one for the tranny. What about front mount [1 bolt]. Do we use some kind of sidemounts? We are hoping someone has did this kind of conversion that can offer their two cents. Thanking you for any help we can get. Joe
Setting up the AOD can be real tricky as you need special tools. If not done correctly it is very unforgiving and expensive. Later Electronic units can be installed with a shift computer.
Thanks guys for the quick reply. When I informed my son he said the heck with that tranny so the speed shop overhauling the 292 Y suggested using a 4L60. I hate to even mention it on here I might get shot for swearing like that but has anyone ever done such thing on this forum. I dont where else to ask. Thanks again for your expert advice I really appreciate it. Joe
