Hi guys, got an old wreck of a 96 F-350 with the powerstroke in it. I'm having issues with the butterfly valve inside the turbo closing when I'm not into the throttle pretty good. As soon as you let off it closes up, but get into the throttle again and it opens. This isn't my first gen 1 powerstroke, but I can't figure this one out. Ideas?
Almost all of the time. When its cold It is the worst, sometimes it goes away wjen the truck Is all warmed up, and othe times it doesn't go away. Has me condused.
Sounds to me like the oil temp sensor is bad and the truck thinks its cold. The back pressure sensor could be bad as well or the tube is just severely plugged.
Unpluging it is an option, you don't need it mine is totally gone. Took it out when I rebuilt the turbo. You say it is kind of a Pile anyway so you probably don't want to spend much fixing it??
Paid 1200$ for it. Not bad for a 4x4 F350 dsl I don't think, but the body is rough for sure. Its just a beater farm truck/ winter truck. I put my nice F350 away for the winter. I would be totally up for disconnecting It. Wasn't aware that it was a viable option. How would I go about doing this?
Awesome, I will do that. I was hoping for a simple option like this. I'm used to IDI engines, no electronic issues. Lol. Thank you for your help, it is much appreciated.
No prob. glad to help. Who cares on an old farm truck don't need it anyhow. Make sure its in the open position after its unplugged should be spring loaded to open but can stick. it's located where the exhaust comes out of the turbo.
You can put it on a switch if you like. Then you can use it when you need it. But honestly it is not really necessary.
If it still closes when you unplug the electrical connection you can wire it open at the linkage.
