warm up valve?

truck is a 99 auto trans...i recently replaced the exhaust back pressure sensor and tube because it was rotten..now with these colder temps..(60's-70's) i noticed the warm up valve (or i believe it is) operationg..but not correctly. today i started it..(cold) and i heard it out of the pipe..like it started to hiss and then stopped....tried again and stopped..obviously it's not cold enough to be operations but why would it be attempting to..and why not fully?..it like "tried" for a second or two and then stopped...did this about twice and then it was fine and didnt do it again.

anything from anybody whats goin on?

its the (EBPV) which is controlled by the (PCM) and activated by engine oil pressure, its purpose is to decrease engine warm up time in cold weather! i think

yes this was about 4pm today. just odd that it attempted to operate; and almost as if it were stuck or something because it hissed and thten stopped right away.

I would just run it a few days and it should be fine, especially since you said it went away. If not, check you connections again. It should not be coming on under those conditions but it may just be sorting itself out.

This is what I was getting at. The EBPV should not be needed. Anywhere in North America right now it should not be needed at 4pm.

Mine came on yesterday when the truck sat for 2 days in the mountains at a campground, just no high idle. BUT my tube is clogged and I cleaned the senser just not sure if its good anymore. Cann't seem to get tube off yet to clean.

Not to hi jack but... Another question on that, will you have less power and worse fuel mil. with a clogged tube and senser since mine to dirty?

started truck today...about in the 70's. and the problem started up again...almost sounds as if a door is being slammed shut when the hissing stops..but this time it was continuous....on and off on and off..and it kept doin it...hiss no hiss...hiss no hiss..etc. about every second it would change from hissing to no hissing..rpm's were consistent though...NOT risen...engine sounded to be operating smoothly and normal..just the valve makin it hiss outa the exhaust?? then i reached my destination; after driving for about 15 to 20 minutes and after that it was fine at idle.

truck appears to run fine as well.

whats goin on here? i've never seen or heard of these engines doing this before?
i know i said i'd give it a few days btu it's annoying.

Well, if the truck is running fine when on the go pedal, it is trying to work right as it should disable the EBPV. There is oviously a problem. Recheck your connections. I am bumping this to remind myself to get the shop DVD and check this out. Anyone else can chime in here.

I don't want to send you on a goose chase. I will blame that on the manual.

EDIT: BTW, after you start the truck and it does that hissing mess, step on the brake pedal. It should immediately disable the EBPV.
