Well, the weather here still @#$%! It's raining sideways right now! I was thinking of what rander101 wrote and I went outside with my rain coat to take a look under the hood. He's right, I replaced the wrong sensor according to what he's saying! I could not see the other sensor because there is alot of emmisions hoses in the way and the rain! I went to the auto parts store and asked for the temp. guage sensor and that is what I was given so I imagined that it was right! If this weather ever gives me a brake, I'm going back under the hood to look for the other sensor and do the trouble shooting that you guys suggested! Thanks again and I'll keep you posted!
Well, the rain stopped and I went to work. I found the correct sensor and I did the ground test on the wire. It worked, so I took the sensor off. There was a little corriosion on the threads, so I cleaned it up with a wire brush and put a little sealant on the top threads and then re-installed it. I then flushed the cooling sytem because I had been planning to do so. Took it for a spin and it works! Thanks alot to everyone that gave me advice, the forum members here are the most helpful poeple that I've ever encounterd!
Are there two sensors on the 4.9 also?? I replaced the thermostating thinking this was the problem and then the sensor and my gauge is stone cold .......HELP
If your 4.9 is fuel injected, then it has two sensors. One for the guage. One for the computer/fuel injection. Where are they located on a six? I haven't a clue.
it is fuel injected, and that is my main concern, if the gauge is not working, but the computer is getting a proper reading, I am less concerned, but I still like to know!
I have a 95 ranger with the 2.3, my temp gauge does not work. With the weather changing it would be nice to have it work again. My haynes book isn't very helpful on this. I found the oil pressure sender, it has a green wire with a white stripe. I can also see where the temp sender used to be. Its still threaded into the block, however half of it is missing. I'm not worried about changing it, thats the easy part. I can't find the temp wire, nor do I know what color it is. Anyone have any idea before I start going through the wire harness?
It has a single red/white wire going to the gauge sender. The sending unit should be located on the driver's side of the engine below the oil pressure sensor.
Like I said, I found where the temp sensor should be, half of it is still there. But there is no wire. I looked at earlier posts on this and saw the red/white and white/red combos for temp and oil pressure. My oil pressure isn't that color so I need to be sure that it is actually a red/white wire I'm looking for.
Ok, I found a red/white wire coming through the firewall in the harness. I can't seem to follow it all the way to its end. Is that particular wire color reserved for the temp sensor only or could there be something else in the truck that uses red with white stripe? I'm just wondering if it would be wise to follow it as far as i can see it then try to pull it from the harness.
What could have happened, that this wire is not in the vicinity of the sending unit? It should be over there. Has the wiring been modified or changed out? There is no guarantee the wire you found is the correct one.
