My 99 2.5L has been putting on it's alternator light whenever engine speed exceeds about 3700 RPM. This happens regardless of vehicle speed, load, temperature, and electrical load.
I confirmed that the voltage is truly dropping to battery voltage at these times, and I can see that the belt is not slipping.
Anyone ever see this before? It may have been happening for some time unnoticed since I very rarely go over 3000 RPM.
Wait and see if anybody else has any ideas, but I haven't any advice except to change the alternator. I believe your late model truck has the regulator built into the alternator, so changing it may kill two birds.
