Question about VIN on 1966 Ranchero
VIN starts out "6K29" and looking at the decoder, 1966 built in Kansas City but the "29" doesn't seem to be right. Also on the steering column the shift selector says "cruise-o-matic" but the door tag is showing a trans code of "6"...a C4-XP....
Any help that any of you may have on these codes..much appreciated

What decoder might this be, FTE's? It's not reliable, has errors and omissions, ditto LMC's decoders.
Also on the steering column the shift selector says "cruise-o-matic" but the Warranty Plate is showing a trans code of "6"...a C4-XP.

1965/72 Ford Passenger Car Parts Catalog / General Information Section / VIN & Warranty Plate Decode Charts:
6K29
6 = 1966.
K = Kansas City MO Assembly Plant.
29 (Series Code) = Custom Ranchero, Body Style 66B or 66D / Body Style listed separately on the Warranty Plate.
6 = C4 Automatic (XP). At one time, FoMoCo referred to the C4, C6 & FMX as Cruise-O-Matic's.
FX & MX were known as Cruise-O-Matic's from the year they were born (1958), until the year they were cancelled (FX: 1967 & MX: 1972).
btw: If the DSO code stamped on the Warranty Plate is 71, your Ranchero was ordered from the SoCal (LA) Ford district sales office. If it's 72, it was ordered from the NorCal (San Jose) sales office.
