This EVTM diagram for a 1990 Bronco should be the same as your 1991 F150:

didnt have time to take a look earlier because i had to go to class, but thank you for the diagram. i will try to mess with that tomorrow.

now i have another problem with the horn. i got back from class a little bit ago and go inside and about 30 minutes later the horn just starts honking on its own. i had to disconnect the battery to get it to stop. what in the world would be causing this to happen. i need to get this fixed as soon as possible because the inspection is dead and i have class to go to in the morning...any help is appreciated

If your truck has Speed Control (Cruise Control) the relay could be stuck. Or the buttons on the horn pad are flaky.

the truck has cruise control but i am not sure if it still works because i put a new column assembly in it a couple months ago but i reused my center sterring wheel cover with the cruise buttons on it. i have never tried it to find out if cruise works or not. the horn worked fine with the old column but stopped working when i put the new(used) column in. i took the wheel off a couple weeks ago and cleaned corrosion off the inside of the wheel and column and the horn only works with the key off after that whereas it wouldnt work period. this is the reason i was trying to find out the wire color for the horn because i have a button i am going to use for the horn.
now this problem comes up with it honking on its own. can i take the relay for cruise out and the horn still work once i wire up the button or does the cruise relay need to be in for the horn to work? can i just take the cruise relay out if it works the horn too for now until i have time to work on everything because i need to go to class in the morning and i dont have another ride? the slip ring you mentioned.. what does this look like? maybe i can take a look at that too

The horn wires are yellow and black. I recently pulled the center of the steering wheel off to replace it with one that had the cruise control buttons. I had no problem with the horn working. The cruise control module is not installed yet.

that looks like it came off a 92+ but it still the same color wires. i got the button wired up and hopefully it was just something in the column making the horn go off on its own which cant happen again since now i have a separate button. if it does it again then the only other thing i guess it could be is the relay which i couldnt find so i could test it. i read it was under the dash and to the left of the column for models with speed control and i looked and couldnt find it so if someone know where or what it looks like that would be great so i can pull it and test.
now all i have to do is button up a few quick things and go get the truck inspected.

I thought you already wired in a separate button? What else needs to be repaired?

This should help you find the horn relay:

The ignition key may have something to do with it. I was reading my manuals and the ignition can effect some components, the buzzer is one of them. I am not certain about the horn.

[quote=rla2005;12692659]I thought you already wired in a separate button? What else needs to be repaired?

I didnt have the button wired up when it started honking on its own. i hadnt even messed with anything yet to deal with the horn since i didnt have time to because i had to go to class right after you posted the diagram. i wired the button in yesterday and it hasnt honked on its own again so thats why i think it was something in the steering column making it do it(possibly the ignition as bootmaker stated and i have read that too) but i still want to test the relay just to make sure this problem doesnt happen again. that other picture you posted rla2005 should help me find the relay. thanks for that
As for inspection, the horn was the main thing. the only other thing now i can think of is to put a new bulb in for the tag lights.

I am in the same boat you are 91f150302. rla2005, I don't mean to sound daft, but in the picture you posted it says the horn relay is on the right side of "I/P" what is the I/P? If someone has a picture of the relay that would be great. How do I go about testing the relay?

i never ended up testing the relay and it hasnt gone off on its own since i put the button in so i am just concluding it was something in the column which was my guess toi begin with. i looked for the relay but it seems that the instrument cluster has to come out to get to it so i didnt bother. for future reference the wire i cut and spliced the button into was the yellow with blue checkers on it on the wiring that goes into the column.
