My 1992 is running good but feel the time is getting closer on a rebuild, and would like feedback. No i am not going to race it but i know the people in here know more about Our Broncos than Ford .well almost. This 92 has the original power plant, what was added -a super chip, (shifting purposes not power), fipk kand n filter, Eldebrock upper and lower, msd drop in distributor ,msd 6a box ,blaster coil, dual flowmasters, bassani headers ,56 mm throttle body(bbandK)This truck still runs great but know i can get a good bargaIn with a rebuild and some suggestions. Most defintaly i want to keep the upper lower and all my msd parts, along with the super chip if possible and my computer as is.Yes i dont wanna race it ,i want torque and still be able to use what i have now with maybe new fuel injectors, I know a site that has an engine listed as 335 horsepower, 390lbs or torque, but the price for the engine is 8595.00 .All input appreciated yes you also grey streak Thanks TR
Manfred the truck has near 200,000 miles and i feel its near its time for a rebuild. The mileage has alot to do with it , plus its leaking rear main seal TR
I'm obviously more conservative than most. I would suggest an oxygen sensor and timing chain set and keep on driving. However, I have no desire for 335 HP either. I did have fun with an 800 HP Indy car strapped to me for five laps though. Oil leaks are cheaper than replacement.
At 200k, other than the leaking rear main, what signs of deterioration are you actually seeing? I would do a compression test on the engine you have and see how "bad" it truly is. Oil burning? Coolant loss without external indications of leaking? Oil under the air filter in the box? (soaked breather filter).
If you want to keep so much of the equipment you have already installed, but you want to increase HP by a significant amount, your options get limited quickly. New long block with better flowing heads and a SD-friendly cam might be enough to satisfy you without the $8600 price tag. Might not be 335HP but with what you already have invested, its a less expensive option and it means you can go through all of the electronics with a fine-tooth-comb as you pull them from the old engine. Would be a fine time to change tins if you wanted to and give an opportunity to have injectors tested and replace any sensors that may be getting old (remember, electronics change resistance value as they age which in turn changes the signal coming back the to ECM hence altering performance).
These are just the first things that came to mind.
No deterioration, just curious about its mileage and it has leaked for a while. This Bronco runs strong(esp) with the upgrades and sure fun to drive.I was kicking this around for a rebuild --maybe tax refund etcc but being semi conservative may wait to see what happens ,Thanks for the replys TR
Do a compression check to see what kind shape cylinders and heads are in. If oil pressure is still good, just replace leaking main seal. Keep changing oil and filter at 3000 miles and do coolant service when that is due.
