I have this vehicle for two weeks, 2003 Expedition, and I notice that between 20 and 30 miles per hour that there is a humm or vibration from the engine or tranny. Above 30 or below 20, it stops. Then above 40 I feel it again. This is felt mostly on deceleration. It's as if the engine is still revving, but it's not. Can you tell me anything about this?
Thanks.
If it's a 4X4 try putting it in A4WD and see if the problem stops. If it does you have the growl/vibration that affected most of the 4X4 2003 Expys, take it to the dealer and they can fix it under warrantee. Ford has a TSB concerning front axle growl.
This sounds similar to the proplem I had with my 03 xlt with <500 miles. The dealer replaced something with a "revised part" and the vibration went away. Ford apparently knows of the problem, because the dealer first told me the differential would need replaced, but that was before they talked to the Ford rep. It was in the shop for half a day, once they figured out what it was. Mine growled both 2wd and 4wd, from 15mph to around 45.
2003EXPY is correct. Ford has a bulletin 02-25-7. They install a S-spring into the front differential to make the halfshafts rotate at the same speed. I had my 2003 repaired after waiting three months for Ford to figure it out back in February.
Thanks, I had that taken care of last week. I brought them all the paperwork about the Bulletin because they seemed to be unaware. What I don't understand is why Ford, knowing of this problem for eleven months, has not done more to educate their dealerships. Or, Heaven forbid, fix the problem before they sell the car. I buy American, but these companies really do test my patience.
My 2003 Expy has < 3000 miles and the growl / hum is becoming very noticeable. What is the best approach for getting the dealer to recognize and fix. What everyone has been saying is definitely true? Does anyone know the exact TSB my Ford dealership should lookup??? Thanks in Advance-- I want to get this fixed before I go on a 4000 mile trip across the country in it...
