hello, I need help . I have a 1999 f 350 7.3 liter crewcab, stock with the exception of a hypertech program. New years eve it was 31 degrees here in central New York. My truck was covered in NY salt from the roads so I washed it figuring 31 was warm enough. About 2 miles down the road my fuel guage went from 1/4 to full and stuck there. The outside temp guage went from 31 degrees to -15 and hasn't read right since. I was told that the sensers may have frozen and they would work when it thaws. A few days ago it got up to 28 here and I had a salamander blowing on it for about an hour(melted all the snow and ice off) but the gauges still don't work. Not sure if it is related but Thursday I got ready to leave the house and I have no lights in the instrument cluster or the heater switches. All the gauges(except fuel and outside temp) appear to be working, just no lights. Tail lights are out too. We aren't expecting a real thaw for a couple months and I'm at my wits end,so any advise would be appreciated.
I had same issue a couple of years back, I had a garage i put truck in for the weekend, problem went away. I no longer use high pressure water to clean with.
well no garage to put it in. guess I'll see what happens in the spring. Thanks for the input
Crap! Any way to get it out of the cold and wind for a day? Build a snow fort and then put a heater by the truck? Sure would be nice to narrow down the issue before the thaw!
ok so today one of our finest let me know that I don't have tail lights. I just assumed that since the headlights were working the tail lights were too. I checked every fuse and relay that I could find and still no luck. At least it broke 35 degrees today.
find a local shop you trust and have them trace down all your ground wires.
or take it to Ford and have them run diagnostics. They will find the issue if they have the time to trace down the circuit you are having issue with.
Put my truck in the shop to check the lights and gauges. Almost 15 hrs and till not sure why the fuel gauge and outside temp sensor is off. The shop owner only charged $400.00. Said he couldn't justify charging the time when he couldn't find the problem but had to charge for some of his time. Found a few problems that I didn't know I had repaced a headlight switch and a couple bad wires.. at least the lights all work
