Question Coolant amount

Due to having an on going problem with a coolant leak, I relaced the factory radiator with a new replacment radiattor. I also wanted to get one bigger, just in case I start towing a trailer later. I had the 2 core one and replaced it with an all metal 4 core. I have a 96 bronco, with AT and A/C. The switch went very well, with very little trouble. My question is how much coolant will the new radiator hold? I put in about 2 and a half gallons and it is not taking anymore. I know the coolant in the block did not drain, but does that sound about right. I was expecting somewhere around 4 gallons for some reason. Thanks for any help you can offer.

yo Fletch,
My 96's Owner's Guide reads:
5.0 w/auto and a/c - stand cooling = 14 qts
same with super cooling = 15 qts

5.8 w/auto and a/c - stand cooling = 16 qts
same w/super cooling = 17 qts

The block, etc do hold a lot; have you filled it iaw the Owner's guide instructions? I posted the fill procedures for dutch:
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...hreadid=120401

those air bubbles do take some room up.

Xblazer,

Where did you find the all metal four core? I'd give my right arm for that kind of cooling capacity. Especailly if its all metal....hate those plastic tanks.

Thanks for the info, I am gals to get an all metal radiator. My old one was cooling just perfect, but it had a leak I just could not get stopped. I tried stop-leak and other home treatments, but I was told once the plastic starts to leak there is no fixing it. Plus, I wanted to have the extra cooling of the four core over the stock two core. The only difference in the two is the four core is a little thicker, but there is still alot of room between it and the fan.

I looked several places and found the best buy at rockauto.com. Adanace auto had the same four core for 350.00 plus tax, and wait for a special order. Rockauto had the four core for 204.00 plus 15.00 shipping, 220.00 sent to my door. There is a big difference in the price of the four core, but very little differnce in the price of the two core, from the places listed above. I figure, I got the four core sent to my door for 50.00 dollars more than I could get a two core at advance.

I am pleased and happy that the installation went so easy, I was worried that it would take some modification, but it went like clock work. The only problem I had was leaking around the A/T lines, A little tread compond, solved that, I should have done that to begin with.

So far, the onlt difference I see in the running is that the temp seems to be more constant. My old one, the temp went from the N in the word normal on the temp guage, all the way up to the A, and did this constantly moving back and forth. Now, is stays right around the O and only moves up to the A, then drops back to the R, but this is not constantly moving like the old one, just sort of slow change. I feel that, it will keep more of a constant temp and hope it will keep such a change from hot to cold.

I am sorry for the long post, I do have a habit of running on. Thanks for all you help.
