Radiator flush question!

Today I did a complete rad flush using Goochs Radiator Flush procedure. Replaced original green coolant with some CAT ELC. Everything went smooth other than the radiator drain valve snapping off but luckily it was just the head so it still sealed. I was wondering at the end of goochs procedure it says to to add 4 gallons of coolant then add your 4 gallons of water to get the 50/50 mixture, well my truck took the 4 gallons of coolant but only 2 and a half gallons of water. I ran the truck for about thirty minutes to get the thermostat to open and the coolant level is still the same. Is this normal or is my thermostat not working properly? The coolant level is normal and is mixed with the water very well. Should I be worried or just watch it over the next couple day and see if I have to add some more water. Thanks Cody <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

That can be normal. And it wont hurt anything. Give it a few days and some miles and recheck. I'll bet next time you pop the hood there will be room for more fluid.

You have to take the block plugs out to get all the old water and collant out. If you flushed it good, you should be good to go.

I followed the flushing procedure to the T, took the block plugs out about 3 different times to make sure it was completely cleaned out. I just drove the truck all night and got home and checked it and it was in the same spot.

4 gallons of concentrated ELC then topped off with distilled water?

You're fine. You're perfect. You're golden.

Coolant gets trapped in "pockets" like the engine oil cooler & heater core and do not drain completely, even with the block drain plugs out. That is why it is recomended to thoroughly flush with distilled/demineralized water, add concentrated coolant, and then top off with water to keep the proper coolant-to-water ratio. Now, anytime you add, you can use a 50/50 mixture to maintain it.
You're good to go!
