Is there a simple method 'from inside the cab' of isolating the ESOF from enaging the front auto locking hubs?
I'm aware of the Vacuum lines to the hubs which can be plugged off or replacing the autos with a set of Warn Manuals (future mod).
What I'd like to do is find a simple method to isolate the front hubs from being engaged when setting the ESOF switch to 4X4 Low Ratio in order to utilise the low down grunt via the rear wheels only.
This would be an occassional thing for when reverseing a load or a trailer up a grade or even doing a long (few mile) slow very steep hill pull in say 2nd in the auto box.
I don't like the idea of having the front hubs enaged on hard ground such as bitumin or concrete road ways.
I do recall that there was a thread on this some time ago?? I've done a search and can't pull it up.
Someone has a post on here somewhere. But go to the solonoid on the passenger fender, and cut the power line and run it through a switch.
On will be stock and off will break the connection so that the ESOF does,t kick in.
I have one on my truck, LOW or HIGH RANGE and no 4X4.
If it is an Automatic.

Reg: I cut the RED one for whatever reason, But I am sure I did it with the help of someone Else's post. Jim
It is about 0 deg C here today, and I was thinking, it would be nice to be on Kangaroo Island again enjoying the scenery, and the Fairy Penguins. Jim
G'day Jim,
Thanks for that Mate, Red it is I'll give it a go.
I don't envy you being in 0*C. However we have just been through a bit of a heat wave here in Victor Harbor and Kangaroo Is.
It got up to 45*C (113*F) in Adelaide and 42*C (108*F) in Victa and KI last week.
Christmas day was beautiful at 26*C (79*F).
The Fairy Penguins have been taking a bit of trouble from the New Zealand Fur Seals and their numbers are right down.
Just remember mate; if your on way back here anytime 'My place is yours' your very welcome.

G'day Jim,
Well I've done the mod and used the 'Red' Wire as advised.
All operates good and as I wanted it .
I disconnected the ESOF Solenoid connector and cut the 'Red' wire.
I then soldered in a 'Red' wire long enough to go through the firewall to a switch and back to the ESOF connector to complete the loop.
I had tested the mod with just the 'Red' wire cut and again with the wire twitched together to prove it would work before going the extra through the firewall and incorporating an 'On-Off' switch.
Here is where I fitted the switch; right next to the ESOF 4X4 Switch; fits there real neat :

I tested the system in all modes. The switch will normally be in the 'On' position and will allow the ESOF 4X4 switch to engage the front hubs as normal in 4X4 High & 4X4 Low. When in the 'Off' position and you make the ESOF 4X4 switch to either 4X4 H or 4X4L the front hubs will not engage as the ESOF solenoid is cut out of the circuit via the little switch.
So now I have the use of the Low Range gearing via the TX case to the rear wheels only when needed .
I have tested it in and out, on and off at least a half dozen times and it works a treat.
Thanks Jim and the other fellas for you input .
Ohh; BTW, you will notice that the steering wheel is on the 'RIGHT' side.
Now that would be 'RIGHT' as in 'Right Hand Side' (opposite to 'LEFT') and also 'RIGHT' as in 'CORRECT'.
That is it's on the 'CORRECT' (Right) side of the truck .
Awesome. I may have to do that when I fix the vacuum leak. Until then it's all manual locking anyway, and I can use low gear from the cab no problem. I guess since everything is opposite, it will be the blue wire here, and off will be on and in will be off, right will be left, and low will be high. Y'all should just change the way y'all drive...

Yes; I know, Going from Adelaide to Victor Harbor at night with my friends, me in the left seat almost put some coffee stains in my shorts. But I am not sure it is the "Right" side.(:-)
what am I missing here?? in my 4x4 low with hubs unlocked, even though I have the low gearing my front axle is not engaged..this was before the waren hubs. The way it was explaned to me is, with hubs unlocked, 4x4 high would work, 4x4 low would not engage the front axle but would have low gearing,
I woukd have to lock the hubs to have actual 4x4 low
4 low locks the hubs automatically if the vacuum is working properly. The way the hubs work, it's better to have them moving when locking in, which you can't do in 4 low, has to be sitting still with foot on the brake. So, sometimes they do not actually engage when going to 4 low. As long as you still roll before the end of the locking pulse (20 seconds I believe) it should lock the hubs.
Edit: Also, locking the hubs doesn't change anything in the transfer case. It should be spinning both axles anytime the truck is in 4x4, whether low or high. If not, you have an issue.

Weel, it may have something to do with living 'Downunder' prolly all those years walking around upsidedown in the 'Bottom Hemisphere' .
