My only issue is I'm to low geared with the 4.10's. I how to change mine to 3.55's this winter to get my rpm's down. I pull my 28ft fifth wheel,18.5ft ski boat together and love it. Went from 5mpg to 11 when pulling my rig.

I know you are pulling a lot, but 11 mpg sound really low, what size tire are you running?

thx for the reply my77,sound like you have the same truck as i do and almost the same donor. im wondering what you did for motor mounts? i see fordcummins sell a set for a bit over $200. ready to install would be kind of nice.
i would be willing to pay this unless there is a better way. did you go with an auto trans or manual? im going with the dodge 5 speed in the donor truck and im going to take the forum advise and go with the divorced t-case. so now im wondering about any cab mods other than installing the clutch master cylinder.
im hoping to use the donors radiator. will this fit in to my 77 and work ok? i will also be buying a new intercooler. also wondering what you did for a transmission crossmember?
thank you for your time and hope to be hearing from you...Ron

That being said - I'm not one to talk as my 4 year project isn't done yet either.

I do have the 2wd trans in my '74 highboy with a divorced t-case though and like it so far... Which doesn't count for much since it's still sitting in the shop
Well at least it's ready and waiting for a wrench to jump on it at anytime lol.

Running 33's right now. With 33's and 4.10's in OD 55 mph is 2000 rpm. Needs to be down about 1800 rpm to get better mileage.

I used the Ford Cummins motor mounts which are very simple. There were holes in the frame already which made orienting the motor in the truck perfect. I used the Ford radiator for my 460 and Dodge intercooler. You will have to trim the front crossmember to clear the oil pan and with my intercooler I had to trim the inside of the grille shell. Used the Dodge 3spd OD auto and flipped the crossmember over with a little modification.

Ok thanks for the info. Ill get the motor mounts ordered up. Did you have to any firewall mods to make room for the cummins of was it a nice fit? Sure doesn't sound like any serious fab work on the crossmembers. I'm looking forward to spring to start getting the cummins put in. In the mean time it's gonna get a small suspension lift and some disc brakes on the rear axle
Was also wondering about the Dana 60 rear axle. Does it seem to be handling all the cummins torque ok or did you go with an 80. Also how is the dana 44 in the front doing with the added weight?

lots of guys have kept the d60 and been alright. Same for the 44 - just don't mod the motor much & be easy on the skinny pedal.

On the other hand Fordworth here had a d60 grenade on him behind a stock (I believe) 1st gen cummins motor in his '75. He replaced it with a sterling.

Yes, my D80 is a 99 and is about an inch wider than my D60 front. Bolt patterns should be the same at least up until that year. I checked yesterday.

Pretty sure the leaf perches will have to be moved and they are bunches of fun to get the old one's removed. Get out all of your destruction tools.

RuffStuff has the 4" perches.

One thing to think about is your 80 studs are larger than your front axle. I am planning to open up the holes on the front rotors to accept the bigger studs. There is an 1/8 difference between the head of the studs on the 80 compared to the opening for the studs on the front rotors. I'm not sure this is the best way to go but something I'm looking at.

I was wondering why you weren't using the dodge axle.

I hoping the dodge rear end wouldn't be a huge pain in the butt to put in,all tho shelling the D60 would be a bigger pain in the butt lol
Jus want to get a little bit of input from you guy before I planed on doing it for sure. I thank you all for the feed back I've been getting. Should be a fun project but I think it's gonna take a little long to get it done then I first thought but I'm sure it will be well worth it to me.
Thank again...

If you get the 4x4 nv4500, Advanced Adapter makes an adapter to bolt the np205 direct. If FC sells mounts for $200, buy it if you consider your time worth anything. There is not a lot of room front to back or left to right to play with due to the size of the engine.

See my gallery for some pictures and maybe answers to your questions. If you have other questions, please ask.
