Need Help with Fuel Vapor Valve

Can anyone tell me where I might find a fuel vapor valve for my '78 F100? I dropped the tank to restore and the valve broke from the hose. I cannot find a replacement anywhere. I know this is part of the emissions system but how necessary is it? Will the truck run without the valve? I read in another post someone said to weld the hole on the tank shut and not have the valve. I am in NC and the law says any vehicle 35yrs old does not require machine testing for inspections so if I do away with the valve will it cause other problems? Someone please help! This is the only thing (at this point) standing in my way of getting this keepsake truck back on the road.

Thank You VERY much HIO Silver! I have searched for days on the internet. Seems it is called several different names depending on who you are talking to. Finally went to the Ford dealer and they gave me part a number but stopped carrying the part back in the 90's.

Oh Yes, Love my internet! Actually I am the mom of the son that is restoring the truck. This was my husband's baby that he drove for a long time then planned to restore but never got around to it before his death 5yrs ago. My son discovered all kinds of parts, hoses, and etc stored in the toolbox on the back! Can't wait to get this thing back on the road. Loved driving it myself!
Thanks again for your quick help!

The hole in the tank can be welded closed but you would have to replace the fuel fill cap with a vented cap. Otherwise your fuel pump would create a vacuum in the tank and cause fuel starvation to the carburetor and possibly collapse the tank.
