Annoying rattle in the front end. It's not the torsion bar, just put poly in it. It's not the shocks, they are 4 months old. The truck drives fine and doesn't wander.
When I lock in the front end it gets quieter, but there is a vibration when locked in.
So my guess is wheel bearings or the driveshafts knuckles on both sides. Just would like a second opinion before I tare into it. Thanks
Without hearing the sound or feeling the wheel, I'm just guessing: Front drivelines are strarting to act up on our rigs. Lube level on the front? I had a bad bearing in my locking hub. Repacking those are easy, but you need the right grease.
It's like a loose shock. But when I lock in the front, the rattle quiets and then the vibration. So its either the bearings or knuckle I think. Maybe ??
The bearing units (aka spindle assemblies) are bolted to the inside of the knuckles with 4 large bolts. Might put a socket on there to ensure they're all tight. Only takes a couple minutes and the price is right.
Any noise coming from spinning a jacked-up front wheel that would indicate a failing bearing? Folks have been posting about losing bearings lately it seems. Salt intrusion for some. Noticed you are in NE.
Since you say the sound changes based on the front end being locked in or not, that would lead me to focus on parts that are changing behavior whether or not you're locked in. The shafts within the axle tubes and within the hub bearings fit that so it sounds like a good place to start.
